Biba Golic

You do not usually hear much about female table tennis players, but Biba Golic may be the exception. This young woman has excelled in this sport and made quite a name for herself. She is truly an inspiration to female players around the world.

Her real name is Biljana, but everyone calls her by the nickname of Biba Golic, which matches her sparkling personality perfectly. For those who are interested, Biba Golic is originally from Yugoslavia. It was in her home country that she began to play table tennis and she excelled at the sport even at an early age.

She finished in 4th place in the 2003 European Championships which was quite exciting not only for her but for her whole team. She has also won several national championships. Biba was even the featured player on ESPN 2 from the Killerspin Extreme Table Tennis Championships. At one time, Killerspin sponsored her.

In addition to the above, Biba Golic has the following to add to her resume:

•2004 CA Open in San Francisco Women’s singles champion

•2004 Buckeye Open in Ohio, Women’s singles champion

•2004 National Collegiate champion in Women’s singles, doubles, Mixed doubles, and team

• Recipient of the 2004 Texas Wesleyan Most Valuable Table Tennis Player Award

• Overall ranked number 1 Female in Texas, number 8 in USA, and number 1 for colleges

And that is just the beginning of her amazing career. She was ranked number two in collegiate women in the US and at one time ranked 209th among women worldwide.

Biba Golic started playing at age 10, when her father, a table tennis coach, taught her the game. By the time she made her teen years, she was one of Yugoslavia's state-sponsored players which is not only an honor but very hard to do considering there are thousands of applicants per year.

As a female athlete, she is someone any young girl can look up to and be inspired by. Biba Golic not only became a great table tennis player, but she also went on to college and was able to maintain her head during all of it. Her life story is compelling and interesting and is well worth reading.
