Racquetballs
Racquetballs are unlike any other type of ball which is why it is important to use them when playing this sport. If you try to use a different kind of ball such as a tennis ball or handball you will be disappointed with the results. Tennis balls, handballs, or even simple rubber balls will not have the same bounce when they come off the racket or when they come off the walls.
In general, racquetballs are bouncy rubber balls that are 2.25 inches (57 mm) in diameter. They can be found in various different colors with blue and black being the most popular.
Racquetballs can be purchased in tubes (or cans, if you prefer) or they can be purchased individually. Most players prefer to buy them in tubes of three. You can find racquetballs at online outlets as well as in sporting goods stores the world over. When shopping for racquetballs it is often a good idea to compare prices as some outlets are far more expensive than others.
If time is not an issue, buying racquetballs online through one of the many outlets is often the most economical way to get them. You will, of course, have to wait for them to arrive and you should always check the shipping rates. At times, higher shipping rates can make them more expensive than buying at a local brick and mortar outlet.
Like all sporting balls, racquetballs have an expected lifetime and they are by no means indestructible. The average lifetime of the racquetballs that you use will depend on the manufacturer and the quality that they put into their product. It is usually a good idea to get the best quality racquetballs that you can afford. They will, in general, last longer than the very cheapest ones.
And, as mentioned above, racquetballs are not indestructible. If you step on one or drive over one, it will lose its shape and be useless. Again, the better quality racquetballs will be able to stand up to more harsh treatment than the very cheap ones.
For competition play, the racquetballs used are sanctioned by the governing body that is presenting the event or the tournament. Most of these events will supply the proper racquetballs and will not allow you to use your own. This is done to prevent cheating and to give all players a fair and level chance of winning.
